What is an Oral Weight Loss Programme?

Injections aren’t for everyone — needle anxiety, a busy schedule, or simply a preference for tablets can put people off starting treatment altogether. The Wegovy pill changes that: it’s the UK’s first oral GLP-1 medicine licensed for weight loss, approved by the MHRA in June 2026, giving you the same active ingredient as the Wegovy injection in a once-daily tablet instead.

What is the Wegovy Pill?

The Wegovy Pill is a prescription tablet formulated for weight loss and long-term weight management — the oral form of the same medicine used in the Wegovy injection.

How It Works

It mimics a hormone that regulates appetite, helping you feel fuller for longer so you naturally eat less.

Administration

Taken as one tablet, once a day, first thing in the morning on an empty stomach with a small sip of water — after fasting overnight where possible. Food, drink (other than water) and other oral medicines should be avoided for at least 30 minutes afterwards, as this affects how well the tablet is absorbed.

Active ingredient

Contains semaglutide — the same active ingredient as the Wegovy injection and Ozempic (used for type 2 diabetes), delivered here in tablet form.

Suitability

Licensed for adults with obesity (BMI over 30), or those overweight (BMI between 27–30) with a weight-related health condition such as hypertension or type 2 diabetes.

Effectiveness

Clinical trials (OASIS 4) showed an average weight loss of around 13.6–16.6% of body weight over 64 weeks — broadly comparable to the 2.4mg Wegovy injection.

Side effects

Common side effects include nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, constipation, stomach pain, headache, tiredness, dizziness, bloating and heartburn.

Have Your Consultation

Once you’ve submitted your form, our pharmacist will review your answers and schedule a short consultation — either online or in-store. This ensures the treatment is safe and appropriate for you.

Get Your Prescription & Order

If you’re eligible, the pharmacist will issue a private prescription directly through our system. You’ll receive an email and SMS notification to order your prescribed medication online or collect it from your chosen branch.
